Purpose: |
The purpose of this Acceptable Use Policy is to set forth
policies and guidelines for access to LesleyU's K-12 online learning system. The
online learning system (OLS) is herein defined as any electronic device or
network accessible technology used to communicate or convey audio, text, or
visual messages. In addition this policy includes guidelines for acceptable and
safe use of computer hardware, computer software and related access to the
LesleyU intranet and to the internet. |
Statement: |
In providing an inclusive online learning environment for
students aged five to eighteen, the directors of LesleyU provide students with
access to powerful tools for communication, collaborative learning, innovative
discovery, and knowledge. While these tools are necessary for online learning,
not all accessible material is appropriate for students in grades K-12. Faculty
of LesleyU are expected to utilize a variety of well planned internet and
technology resources while also instructing students on using such tools in an
appropriate and safe manner. |
Code of Conduct: |
LesleyU's overall code of conduct also applies to student
online activity. |
Goals: |
There is one major goal for an Acceptable Use Policy and
that is to provide computer and internet services to students, staff, and the
community users in support of the education objectives set by the district. It
is important that students, staff, and community users acknowledge and
understand the AUP in order to use the districts services appropriately and meet
the educational objectives that have already been
set. |
Process: |
When developing an Acceptable Use Policy you must clearly
specify the policy at hand. An AUP has 6 major sections that must be clearly
stated. These 6 sections include:
- A preamble
- A definition section
- A policy statement
- An acceptable uses section
- An unacceptable uses section
- A violations/sanctions sections
Each section needs to be clearly stated and explained so that
students and parents understand the AUP. An AUP also needs to have a section in
which the parents and students sign saying they acknowledge and understand the
AUP. |
