  • Preamble:  This section explains why the policy is needed, describes the goals and process of developing the policy.
  • Definition section: Defines the key words that are used within the policy.
  • Policy statement: This statement must tell what computer services are being covered by the AUP.  It also must tell the circumstances under which the students may use the computer services.
  • Acceptable uses section: This part defines acceptable and appropriate student use of the computer network.
  • Unacceptable uses section:  This part defines and clearly states inappropriate student use of the computer network.
  • Violations/Sanctions section: This section needs to tell students how to report any violations of the policy.
  • Telecommunication: Any electronic device or network accessible technology used to communicate or convey audio, text, or visual messages.
  • Vandalizing: To subject to damage.
  • Plagiarizing: To steal or pass off as one’s own work.  Use without crediting the source.
  • Distributing: To give out or deliver.
  • Transmitting: To send or convey information from one person or place to another.
